Dance Theory Classes

Students who take our Dance Theory Classes have a thorough understanding of the theoretical and historical foundations of Bharatanatyam. These classes examine the subtleties of mudras, adavus, and bhavas, drawing from the Natya Shastra and other classical works. Pupils discover the importance of these components in terms of their spiritual and philosophical aspects in addition to their storytelling value. Talks explore how Bharatanatyam began as a temple dance devoted to the gods and trace its development into the colorful theatrical art form it is today. By connecting students to the art form's rich history and ageless ethos, this knowledge enhances their practice and deepens their appreciation of the art form.
Students participate in activities that include theory and practice in addition to learning about the origins of Bharatanatyam. In order to bridge the gap between studying and performing, theoretical insights are used in the classroom to improve physical expressions and motions. Students develop a comprehensive approach to dance by establishing tradition and purpose as the foundation of their artistry, which guarantees that their performances have cultural depth and authenticity. A mainstay of our curriculum, these sessions seek to develop well-rounded artists who, in each movement, exemplify the tradition of Bharatanatyam.
